Life in Gateshead

Known as the twin cities, Newcastle and Gateshead are linked by a series of iconic bridges crossing the Tyne. The rejuvenated quayside is home to internationally regarded music arenas and art museums in addition to its many bridges. Get acquainted with the broader Tyne and Wear area in its local museums and galleries or cheer on the beloved Newcastle United with the Toon Army. Shoppers can wend their way through independent stores in cobbled High Bridge and go bargain hunting in sales at the Metro Centre or Eldon Square. Polish it all off with some pub grub or gourmet cuisine, a drink or two in the trendy Ouseburn valley, or a walk through one of the many parks in Newcastle.

When it comes to places dedicated to shopping, eating and drinking, theatre and concerts, you’ll be completely spoilt for choice. Life in the North East is all about working hard and playing hard, so there are plenty of venues where you can relax, let your hair down and have a great time.

Sport & Leisure

North East England has a proud footballing tradition with Newcastle United and Sunderland AFC and it also boast premiership Newcastle Falcons Rugby team and the Durham County Cricket Club. For people who love the great outdoors, there is surfing along the stunning North East coastline and the coast-to-coast cycle trail to Carlisle.  The region also hosts the world’s largest half marathon, The Great North Run, which attracts more than 55,000 participants each year.

Education

Another practicality is making sure that there are some decent schools near to where you’re planning to live. And, thankfully, there’s no shortage of good and outstanding schools in and around the North East.
